The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving manufacturing equipment, automated production systems, facility equipment, and utility systems that support medical device manufacturing operations. This position serves as a key technical resource responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, supporting production schedules, and ensuring equipment reliability through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
The ideal candidate possesses strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills and has experience working with industrial equipment, motor controls, pneumatic systems, automation equipment, and manufacturing machinery. This role works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Facilities teams to identify root causes of equipment failures, implement corrective actions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain safe and efficient operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing equipment, automated production systems, facility equipment, and support systems.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical equipment failures.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
- Install, maintain, align, repair, and replace motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, chains, rollers, pumps, valves, actuators, and other mechanical components.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems including control panels, circuit protection devices, relays, contactors, sensors, switches, and wiring systems.
- Perform machine modifications, upgrades, rebuilds, and equipment improvement projects.
- Support equipment installations, relocations, validations, and commissioning activities.
Electrical & Controls Support
- Troubleshoot equipment utilizing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, manuals, and technical specifications.
- Diagnose issues involving PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, motor controls, sensors, VFDs, and automated systems.
- Assist with electrical panel wiring, component replacement, and equipment upgrades.
- Support troubleshooting of low-voltage and industrial electrical systems, including 24VDC, 120VAC, 208VAC, and 480VAC equipment.
- Perform electrical testing using digital multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic tools.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, safety, and maintainability.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repairs, inspections, and equipment history documentation.
- Utilize CMMS and maintenance tracking systems to document maintenance activities and equipment performance.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements, electrical safety practices, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain compliance with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Support audits, equipment inspections, and corrective action activities as required.
Collaboration & Technical Support
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Facilities, and Operations teams to support production objectives.
- Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns and process disruptions.
- Assist in training operators and technicians on equipment operation, maintenance best practices, and safety procedures.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Required
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Knowledge of motors, motor controls, relays, contactors, sensors, control circuits, and machine automation systems.
- Experience troubleshooting pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple maintenance activities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or similar).
- Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), HMIs, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience supporting preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Experience using CMMS software.
- Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, aerospace, food manufacturing, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
- Understanding of OSHA regulations, electrical safety standards, and Lockout/Tagout requirements.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical trade school, apprenticeship, military technical training, associate degree, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
- Minimum 3-7 years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, maintenance electrician, industrial electrician, or electro-mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience maintaining automated production equipment and manufacturing systems is strongly preferred.
